Match Report | Firstly a massive thank you to Ben Turner and Henry Timm for covering the wicket Saturday evening, without this being done the game would not have been possible due to heavy overnight rain. As with all matches teams start on 200 and lose 5 runs for wicket lost. Brixworth won the toss and batted. Score of 289 for 3 wickets = Net 274 First pair of James Henry with Harrison Smith defended well against good accurate bowling and scored 7 runs, losing 1 wicket by a run out. 2nd pair of Jaden Malcolm and William Clarke scored 25 runs losing 1 wicket, Jaden scoring 15 runs with 3 boundaries. 3rd pair Robert Vizor partnered Jessica Wright and they did not lose a wicket and scored 17 runs including 2 boundaries for Robert on debut. The final pair saw George Patten partner Liam Eldred and they scored 38 runs for 1 wicket, George top scoring with 27 including 4 fours and a six. Grange Park , 252-8 net 212 An excellent team performance in the field in tricky conditions restricted Grange Park to just 52 runs from the 16 overs Brixworth bowled. Highlights were James Henry taking a wicket for just 5 runs whilst George Patten stole the show with 4 wickets for just 1 run, 3 of those wickets in his final over. In addition to the wickets above there were 3 run outs which came from sharp fielding with everyone backing up, I was especially pleased with the Jaden/James run out where although the ball went behind the wicket Jaden responded to James call to throw to the bowlers end, his accurate throw coupled with James reactions to take the ball and throw down the stumps saw the Batsmen out of ground by a couple of feet. Positives : - 3 weeks in a row, great teamwork. - Improved bowling, with less extras than previous match (10 no balls/wides in 16 overs). - 4 debutants who all contributed to the victory. Areas to work on : - Running between wickets. This must improve as we have done numerous drills on this. Today I still saw many instances of a) non striker not backing up b) batters when going for a quick single slowing down as they approached the crease and c) also not running their bat in. - Correct fielding technique is to use hands or long barrier, please do not use your feet, thats a completely different game! - Batting , shots to the offside. Batters are still trying to cross bat balls that are bowled on the offside to the legside. We will work on driving and cutting on the offside at our next training session. *** Thanks as always to everyone for attending and supporting in quite poor weather conditions, special thanks to Mark and Jessica Wright who helped with setting the boundaries, moving covers and getting the kit ready **** |
