Match Report | As with all matches teams start on 200 and lose 5 runs for wicket lost. Brixworth won the toss and batted first Brixworth 265-2 (net 255) A Good batting performance by all against one of the most accurate bowling attacks the team has faced so far. Only 2 wickets lost in 16 overs is a credit to everyone for playing straight and defending when neccessary. Highlights were James Henry with 12 not out and George Patten top scoring with 16 not out. ONs A 290-5 (net.270) 3 wickets taken during the first pair gave Brixworth hope and the game remained close with ONs requiring 19 from the final pair. Unfortunately it was not to be and ONs prevailed by 15 runs. Highlights were James Henry and Jaden Malcolm both taking 1 wicket each for 10 runs each. Jasper Cooper with 2 wickets (although for 22 runs) but top bowler was Toby Haxby with 1 wicket for just 8 runs.
Positives - Excellent batting for the majority. Today highlighted the need for batsmen to play shots on both sides of the wicket, especially the offside where good bowlers bowl. - Wicket taking, when we do bowl on line and full we take wickets, today again more than the opposition. - Good catching with 3 catches taken out of 3, I won't count Tobys fingertip effort as a drop as he needed to be another foot taller. Areas to work on - Once again extras , todays game came down to extras whether it be wides, no balls or byes as we scored 50 runs off the bat to ONs 55, however we conceded : Brixworth 28 extras v ONs 14 extras Brixworth 13 byes v ONs 1 bye - Everyone who plays U11 matches MUST bowl at least one over therefore it is vital that as many balls as possible bowled are legitimate. Bowling is extremely important and a consistent action can not be gained with a few balls bowled on a Friday evening, this is a skill that must be practiced outside training night ie. if not with a hardball, try bowling a tennis ball against a wall. - Wicket keeping, immediately after Fridays session I will spend 30 mins with any boys or girls who see themselves as wicket keepers, we will run through some basics regarding position of hands and feet. Final thanks to Will Haxby for scoring so superbly as usual. |
