Match Report

As with all matches, teams start at 200, 5 runs are deducted for each wicket lost.

Brixworth at home won the toss and elected to field first

OWs - 282 for 5 wickets (net 257)

Good bowling by many restricted OWs to 257 net runs off the 16 overs. The 5 wickets were spread across 5 of the bowlers. Joseph Mansfield taking 1 wicket for 8 runs off 2 overs with the wicket being a stunning diving catch by James Henry at short mid off. Eva Lay with 1 wicket, clean bowling an OWs batsmen on her debut. George Patten with the miserly figures of 1 wicket (caught and bowled) for 2 runs off 3 overs. Robert Vizor taking a wicket for just 9 runs off 2 overs and James Henry with another wicket for 15 runs off 3 overs. Both James and Robert must thank Jaden Malcolm for taking 2 excellent catches at 2nd slip and deep gully. As you can see the bowling was backed up by great fielding by all including Toby Haxby with 3 great stops in the covers whilst a great performance by Adam Tame on debut as wicket keeper who conceded just the 1 bye.

Brixworth 298 for 2 wickets (net 288)

First pair of Joseph Mansfield and Toby Haxby scored 13 runs for the loss of 1 wicket, Joseph played one lovely drive through the covers for 2.

Second Pair of James Henry (10 no) and Adam Tame scored 23 runs in total without losing a wicket with the highlights being a thumping drive to the cover boundary by James and some solid defence by Adam

Third Pair of Jaden Malcolm (9 no) and Eva Lay scored 16 runs for the loss of 1 wicket with Jaden hitting a boundary with a perfectly timed clip off his legs.

Final pair of George Patten and Robert Vizor went out knowing that 6 runs without losing a wicket would be enough for victory. George calmed everyones nerves by punishing the first 3 balls he faced that were on the leg side to the leg side boundary each time. Quick running between the wicket by both Robert and George resulted in a total partnership of 36, George top scoring with 18 no.

Result : Brixworth won by 31 runs

Highlights

- Excellent fielding and bowling performance, again taking more wickets than the opposition and taking 4 catches, no drops.

- Only 1 bye, this was a combination of both excellent wicket keeping plus fielders being aware when to throw and when not to with great backing up by others. On one occasion with a slightly mis directed throw there were 3 playesr backing up, SUPERB!!

- Only 7 wides in 16 overs, much improved, our opposition gave 17 wides ...thats 20 runs to us which is a major factor in winning. This however can still be improved by us.

- Batting , only 2 wickets lost, both bowled. One of which was a fantastic delivery that pitched on middle and clipped the top of off, you can't do much about those.

Areas to work on.

- Batting, again we will work on offside shots as many are still playing horizontal bat shots from outside off to the legside.

- Taking guard and the importance of taking guard in the same place.

- Non striker backing up ie. walking out with the bowler....it makes running singles easier!

- Correct calling and whose call it is.
