Match Report | As with all matches, teams start at 200, 5 runs are deducted for each wicket lost. Brixworth at home won the toss and elected to field first Saints - 300 for 3 wickets (net 285) Saints started strongly with the first 2 pairs scoring 60 runs for the loss of just 1 wicket that being William Clarke hitting the stumps with the first ball of his 2 overs. Only 3 runs were scored by the Saints 3rd pair due to good bowling by Eion Delaney, Ryan Vladi and a maiden by James Henry that finished with him running the non striker out with a direct throw. However some big hitting by the Saints captain meant the last pair scored 25 runs with Robert Vizor taking a wicket that pegged them back slightly. Brixworth 275 for 2 wickets (net 265) Opening pair of Ryan Vladi and Robert Vizor scored 3 runs after losing 1 wicket against 2 very accurate Saints bowlers. 2nd pair of Man of Match Joseph Mansfield (19no) and Adam Tame (4no) scored and ran well in a partnership of 29 that included 3 sweetly struck boundaries by Joseph without either batsmen losing their wicket. 3rd pair of James Henry (12 "another not out") and William Clarke (4no) shared a partnership of 19 without losing their wickets the highlight being 2 boundaries through the off side by James. 4th pair of Jaden Malcolm (5) and Eion Delaney (6no) scored 14 runs in the final partnership with just the 1 wicket lost ***** Saints won by 20 runs ****** Highlights. - Excellent wicket keeping by Adam Tame again meant 4 byes only of which 2 could not be prevented. - Offside bowling by the opposition meant scoring would be difficult however I saw 3 fantastic shots through the offside for boundaries, a perfect cover drive by both James and Joseph and the sweetly timed cut shot again by James. - Good stops in the field by all but especially by Robert Vizor who behind the wicket on the legside must have saved 10+ runs. Areas to work on : - Again bowling wides and no balls , in total there were 16 which equals 32 runs, our opposition gave us 18 runs, thats a difference of 14 that would have made our chances of winning far greater. As I have stated before the squad must practice bowling in between training sessions and matches as this is a difficult skill and is very reliant on muscle memory. - Fielding positions and starting off from the same position every ball and walking in, too many times I see players standing still or walking in then stopping then walking in again so they end up fielding in the wrong position as they never return to their starting position. - Batting, too many times again I see cross batted shots from fast offside bowling being aimed to leg resulting in misses or being bowled. As pointed out earlier there are 2 sides of the wicket to score runs, opposition teams will work batsmen out who can hit leg side only. Next match is HOME v St Crispins on Sunday 26th July
