Match Report | Sunday 5th June saw Brixworth U11s play their latest league match at home v Nether Heyford U11s. The early morning start was overcast and the pitch quite damp from overnight dew. Brixworth lost the toss and were put into bat. U11 games start on 200 with minus 5 for any wicket lost. Brixworth scored 272-3 (net 257) First pair of captain Jessica Wright and Bethany Coulton scored 15 runs and lost 1 wicket. Second pair of William Barritt (12) and Oliver Savage (5) scored 31 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. Highlights being a powerful shot back past the bowler for a boundary by William and a perfectly executed cut shot for four by Ollie. Third pair of Julius Sha (1 no) and Toby Haxby (4 no) had an unbeaten partnership of 18 which included some well taken singles. The final pair saw Jasper Cooper (2 no) partner Adam Tame (3 no) in another unbeaten partnership of 8 against the strongest bowlers in the Heyford team. Nether Heyford 250-7 (net 215) Brixworth kept the first pair restricted to just 9 runs with Adam Tame taking his first wicket with a clean bowled. The second Heyford pair only scored 10 runs and lost 2 wickets, Adam Tame (2 overs -1 maiden -2 runs-2 wickets) with another wicket thanks to an excellent outfield catch by Oliver Savage. William Barritt also taking a wicket in a tidy bowling spell of 2-1-2-1 thanks to a super diving catch by Toby Haxby. The 3rd pair for Heyford were restricted to just 8 runs with another wicket to fall, this time captain Jessica wright with a catch off her own bowling giving her figures of 2-1-7-1. The final pair for Heyford knew they had to score plenty of runs in the final partnership to challenge Brixworth however Brixworth went better taking 3 wickets , 2 bowled in 1 over by Toby Haxby giving him figures of 3-0-11-2 and Oliver Savage also taking a wicket with a bowled giving him figures of 3-0-9-1. Result : Brixworth won by 42 runs Positives :- - Excellent bowling and fielding performance. Only 11 wides or no balls bowled against 21 by the opposition. We saw intelligent fielding with good calls when a throw from the outfield was not required. 100% on catches again, this time 3 opportunities and all taken which included 2 excellent catches by Toby and Ollie. - Only 3 wickets lost due to good defensive shots played when required. Areas to work on :- - When batting being aware of the situation. When we batted the Heyford players were either 2/3rds of way to the boundary or on the boundary, add to this the ball and the outfield were damp meant that virtually any shot played should have resulted in a single being taken with a good loud early call. Everyone must learn to communicate with their partner when batting and to have a plan. - Offside shots , I counted only 3 scoring shots on the offside , again everyone must have plans as to what they are going to do to balls bowled in different areas, not just swing across the line to the legside. Thank Yous Firstly a big thank you to Adam Cooper and Mark Hughes who manned the BBQ at fridays training session. Thank yous to Will Haxby, Adey Coulton and to Rosie Wright with scoring, supplying juice for the teams and much appreciated coffee for myself. Final thank yous to everyone for coming along and supporting the team, everyone was rewarded with some beautiful late morning sunshine which saw me disappear under a mountain of the teams jumpers. Next match is at HOME v Saints on Sunday 12th June, team will be sent out Monday 6th June.
