Match Report | Sunday 10th July saw Brixworth U11s travel to St Crispins for their latest League match Jessica Wright was captain and won the toss and elected to bowl first. Teams start at 200 and are deducted 5 runs per wicket lost St Crispins 297-3 (net 282) St Crispins scored 97 runs in the 16 overs for the loss of 3 wickets, Tom Moxon recovering a ball behind the stumps to run out a St Crispins batsman and William Barritt taking 2 great catches off Adam Tame and Jessica Wright's bowling. Brixworth 282-4 (net 252) 1st pair of Adam Tame (8no) and Andrew Perrin (1) had a partnership of 18 runs for the loss of 1 wicket, the highlight being 2 boundaries by Adam, 1 of which was a lovely pull shot. 2nd pair of William Barritt (22no) and John Magson (0) shared a stand of 24 for the loss of 1 wicket, William striking 5 boundaries with the best a sweetly struck shot over the top of mid on. 3rd pair of Oliver Savage (6no) and Tom Moxon (6) shared a stand of 23 with 2 wickets lost, highlights being a boundary for Tom and some sharp singles by both Oliver and Tom to keep the scoreboard moving. 4th pair of Jessica Wright (0no) and Bethany Coulton (1no) shared and unbroken partnership of 7. St Crispins won by 30 runs Highlights - An excellent effort by all in the field, particularly William, Oliver and John who all made great stops. - 2 great catches by William (just remember William when you catch the ball you don't need to then try to run out the other batsmen :-) - Excellent bowling by Andrew and William, although no wickets only 18 runs conceded in 5 overs bowled, mainly through bowling a good line and length on off stump or just outside. - Bravery, I saw at least 3 of our batters take blows (John, Andrew and Jessica) from deliveries and all were very brave and faced up to the next ball without flinching, well done. Areas to work on - 44 runs conceded through no balls and wides as opposed to 25 by the opposition, thats nearly 20 runs difference, as previously stated I am generally happy if we concede 20 runs or below. - Calm heads in the field, although there was 1 run out today there easily could have been 5. It is vital as a bowler or a keeper that when a fielder is attempting a run out you get behind the stumps in line with the fielder. That way it gives the fielder a target with the backup that the bowler or keeper will then collect the ball if it misses to possibly complete the run out, basically giving the team 2 attempts at the run out in one play. Alternatively if the batsmen is a long way out then a easy lob or bounce the ball in will make the bowler or keepers task of collecting the ball much easier. - Overthrows (the stuff that turns a coaches hair grey!!). One particular instance where the ball was getting thrown at stumps when batsmen are already in, missing and due to no one backing up extra runs are conceded. Big shouts of "easy" or "hold it" can avoid this from occuring. Thanks yous Thanks to everyone for attending and supporting the group and for some very vocal encouragement. Thanks to Lewis Perrin for helping with some throw downs before the pairs went into bat. Next match is AWAY at West Haddon & Guilsborough on Sun 17th July
