Match Report | Sunday 17th July saw Brixworth U11s visit West Haddon & Guilsborough (WHG) for their latest league fixture. Jessica Wright captaining won the toss and put WHG into bat. Usual rules with teams starting on 200 and losing 5 runs for each wicket lost. WHG - 275 for 1 (net 270) A feature of WHG innings was running the quick singles with the non striker ever alert for any opportunity. A good bowling performance by all especially John Magson with 2 overs bowled for only 9 runs and Owen Mitchell with 3 overs for only 8 runs and the only wicket to fall, clean bowled. Brixworth - 258-4 (net 238) First pair saw Jasper Cooper (5) team up with Owen Mitchell (4no) in a partnership of 17 for the loss of 1 wicket. Highlights being a boundary for each batter. Second pair saw Jasper (4) again this time with John Magson (2no) in a partnership of 12 with the loss of 1 wicket. Highlight being some excellent running between the wicket by John and Jasper. The Third pair saw William Barritt (15no) partner Toby Haxby (4no) in an unbroken partnership of 25, gain highlight being some good runs called by Toby and 2 boundaries by William. Final pair of Jessica Wright (1no) and Bethany Coulson (0) scored 4 run sbut unfortunately lost 2 wickets. RESULT : WHG won by 32 runs Positives - A better bowling performance with regard no balls and wides - 2 partnerships that put pressure on the fielding side through quick singles. Areas to work on - Bowlers hitting the stumps, too many times bowlers are bowling down the legside allowing the batsmen easy strikes. - Fielding, normally we are very good at fielding however today the field was too deep allowing the batsmen quick singles. On almost every ball the captain was talking about walking in but many were standing still. This is a basic skill that must become second nature. - Catching, 3 opportunities and 3 missed, in fairness the easiest one was to the fielder WHG lent us, however the other 2 were opportunities that I would expect us to take 1 of the 2. - Final point is today WHG kindly agreed to lend us a fielder and allow one of our batters to bat twice as we only had 7 players. I try to plan ahead as much as possible to ensure all get to play games, example being emails sent individually to everyone to let them know when they are playing, if I am advised you are not available it allows me time to find a replacement. Thanks - Thanks to everyone for attending and supporting the team - Special thanks to Will and Arthur for scoring and helping with kit and warm up. Next match is home v Bugbrooke on Sunday 24th July
