Match Report

Brixworth U11 v Cogenhoe U11 League Match dated 8th May 2016

Cogenhoe won the toss and elected to field

Brixworth U11s 264-5 (net 239 , team starts on 200 and loses 5 runs for each wicket taken)

First pair for Brixworth were Jasper Cooper and William Clarke who got the home side off to a great start with an unbeaten partnership of 24, Jasper top scoring with 12 not out including 2 boundaries.

2nd pair of Tom Moxon and Oliver Savage did not start well losing 3 wickets in one over but they fought back bravely and kept the best Cogenhoe bowlers out for the remainder of the 4 overs faced.

3rd pair of James Henry (captain) and William Barritt then equalled the 1st partnership with 24 unbeaten, James hitting 1 boundary in 7 not out whilst William struck 2 boundaries in 10 not out.

Final  pair of Robert Vizor and Toby Haxby scored 10 runs with some quick running but unfortunately lost 2 wickets with the stronger Cogenhoe bowlers returning to the attack.

Cogenhoe 246-3 (net 231)

The target set by Brixworth was defendable but would require a good performance both bowling and fielding and that is exactly what the team achieved.

Cogenhoe first pair although scoring 10 runs did not move the scoreboard as they lost 2 wickets, James Henry who took most wickets last season took the first of the season with a clean bowled, Toby Haxby then took a wicket with thanks to a superb catch by Oliver Savage.

The 2nd pair then added only 4 runs but managed to keep their wickets intact. William Barritt bowling 2 maidens in his 2 overs bowled

The 3rd pair scored 13 runs but this was net 8 runs with Robert Vizor taking his first wicket of the season with a clean bowled.

The final pair required 28 runs from 4 overs and this was reduced to requiring 10 runs off the final over to win, Robert Vizor bowled a maiden to win the match for the team.

Positives

Great team performance, as I said to the team in the post match talk they out bowled the opposition with regard extras conceding only 23 versus 31 by opposition.

Good fielding with a great catch off a high shot by Ollie, everyone else being active in the field, I saw lots of walking in, lots of backing up and only 2 byes conceded by Tom Moxon behind the stumps in an excellent effort, the highlight being a stunning diving one handed take down the leg side in the final over.

Team spirit was excellent with lots of talking and encouragement to each other.

Areas to work on

Batting , we will work more on technique, playing straight , recognnising when to attack etc.

Running between wickets , again some work required on calling, backing up, recognising weaker fielders and when 1s can be turned into 2s

Thanks

Thanks to everyone for attending on what was a beautiful sunny morning with extra thanks to Will Haxby for scoring.

Next match is home v Grange Park on Sunday 15th May
